Coal Expenditures in Nebraska
by Sector

In 2021, coal expenditures in Nebraska were $258.4 million, which was a decrease of 3.2 percent from 2020 expenditures. New records had been set each year from 2005 to 2011. Before 2005, the record had been held by the year 1984 when expenditures were $163.3 million.

In 2021, the electric power sector spent $234.2 million (90.6 percent of the total), and the industrial sector spent $24.1 million (9.3 percent of the total). If coal was consumed in the commercial, residential, and transportation sectors in 2021, the expenditures rounded to zero.

The expenditures are in nominal dollars to provide a better comparison.
