Nebraska Gasoline and Diesel Prices

For the week of September 4, Nebraska's average gasoline price dropped 18 cents per gallon from the previous week to $2.64, which was 53 cents lower than the price at this time last year. Last year at this time, the weekly average price peaked at $3.17 due to the events surrounding Hurricane Katrina. This week, average prices in surveyed cities ranged from $2.50 in Columbus and Grand Island to $2.81 in North Platte. Prices in surveyed cities ranged from 8 to 26 cents per gallon lower than last week. As of September 1, the Midwest gasoline stock level was in the normal range with 50.7 million barrels.

Diesel fuel prices are 51 cents higher than motor gasoline this week which is an increase from 46 cents. The average monthly price reports also reflect the increased disparity between the two products from an average of 12 cents per gallon in July to 30 cents in August.

Nebraska's average diesel price decreased 13 cents to $3.15 per gallon. According to the weekly price report, this week's state average was 25 cents higher than the price at this time last year. Weekly averages in the surveyed cities ranged from $3.04 in Norfolk to $3.17 in Grand Island and North Platte. Prices in surveyed cities ranged from 8 to 17 cents per gallon lower than last week. On the supply side, the Midwest distillate fuel inventory level was below the normal range with 22.4 million barrels of diesel fuel as of September 1.

Regular unleaded gasoline is regular unleaded motor gasoline with an 87 to 88 octane. Diesel fuel is fuel used for internal combustion in diesel engines.
