An increase in crude oil inventories could be credited with the fall in gasoline and diesel prices. Higher production by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the return of most of the Gulf of Mexico production from the effects of Hurricane Ivan are two factors which have helped replenish low U.S. crude oil inventories in recent weeks.
Nebraska's average retail price of gasoline fell 4 cents to $1.97 with metro prices ranging from $1.90 in Columbus to $2.03 in North Platte. Midwest gasoline stock levels are above the normal range.
Nebraska's metro diesel prices ranged from $2.00 in Columbus to $2.17 in Kearney with the state average falling a nickel to $2.13 per gallon. Midwest distillate fuel inventories continue at the bottom of the normal range.
