Ethanol Production by State

Nebraska has the second largest ethanol nameplate capacity and the second largest ethanol operating production in the country, based on the latest federal figures.

As of June 2011, Nebraska has the nameplate capacity to produce 1.99 billion gallons of ethanol, which is 14 percent of the nation's capacity of 14.6 billion gallons.  Iowa has the largest nameplate capacity (3.6 billion gallons which is 25 percent of the nation's total), and Louisiana has the smallest nameplate capacity (1.5 million gallons).  Twenty-eight states have ethanol facilities.

Nebraska's operating refineries are producing 1.96 billion gallons of ethanol, which is 14 percent of the nation's capacity of 14.2 billion gallons.  Iowa has the largest operating production (3.6 billion gallons which is 25 percent of the nation's total), and Louisiana has the smallest operating production (1.5 million gallons).  Twenty-seven states have operating ethanol facilities.  Idled facilities are omitted in the total of each state's operating production.
