Ethanol Production by State

Nebraska has the third largest ethanol nameplate capacity and production capacity in the country, based on the latest federal figures.

As of February 2009, Nebraska has the nameplate capacity to produce 1.2 billion gallons of ethanol, which is 9 percent of the nation's capacity of 12.4 billion gallons.  Iowa has the largest nameplate capacity (2.9 billion gallons which is 23 percent of the nation's total), and Louisiana has the smallest nameplate capacity (1.5 million gallons).  Twenty-six states have ethanol facilities.

Nebraska has the production capacity to produce one billion gallons of ethanol, which is 10 percent of the nation's capacity of 10.5 billion gallons.  Iowa has the largest production capacity (2.9 billion gallons which is 27 percent of the nation's total), and Louisiana has the smallest production capacity (1.5 million gallons).  Twenty-six states have operating ethanol facilities.  Idled facilities are omitted in the total of each state's production capacity.
