Deadline is February 3, 2010...Cities and Counties Compete for $8.63 Million in Grants
In September, the U.S. Department of Energy approved the state’s plan for use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program.
In a letter dated December 3, 2009, the Energy Office announced a funding opportunity for cities and counties in Nebraska that did not receive direct funding under the Energy and Conservation Block Grant Program. An estimated 500 towns and villages and 83 counties are eligible to apply for these grants from the Nebraska Energy Office. In the letter Energy Office Director Neil Moseman wrote, "I hope each community or county will submit a grant application for the $8,634,150 in available funds."
The types of energy efficiency improvements that can be funded are lighting projects, building improvements and renewable energy systems. The maximum grant amount is $250,000 which must be matched with 20 percent in non-federal funds. Only one application per political subdivision is allowed, unless a group of communities or counties submit an application.
