Nebraska has the third largest ethanol nameplate capacity and production capacity in the country, based on the latest federal figures.
As of January 2009, Nebraska has the nameplate capacity to produce 1.1 billion gallons of ethanol, which is 9 percent of the nation's capacity of 12.2 billion gallons. Iowa has the largest nameplate capacity (2,756 million gallons which is 23 percent of the nation's total), and Louisiana has the smallest nameplate capacity (1.5 million gallons). Twenty-five states have ethanol facilities.
Nebraska has the production capacity to produce 947 million gallons of ethanol, which is 9 percent of the nation's capacity of 10.3 billion gallons. Iowa has the largest production capacity (2,756 million gallons which is 27 percent of the nation's total), and Louisiana has the smallest production capacity (1.5 million gallons). Twenty-five states have operating ethanol facilities. Idled facilities are omitted in the total of each state's production capacity.
