Energy Office Staffer Helps National Park Service

Lynn Chamberlin, Energy Office architect, shared her work on historically significant buildings at a National Park Service roundtable symposium on improving energy efficiency in historic buildings in March.

The symposium brought together 11 experts in the field to evaluate the Service’s Preservation Brief #3, Conserving Energy in Historic Buildings and to provide current thinking and best practice methods for energy conservation in historic buildings. The information gathered at the session — evaluation methods, insulation, windows and heating, ventilating and air conditioning — will serve as the basis for revising the Service’s materials.

The Energy Office participated in the roundtable because of its work in Nebraska City where agency staff and others performed energy audits on more than 20 historic buildings.

The Energy Efficiency and Historic Preservation Guide was developed to help others who want to make energy efficiency improvements in historically significant buildings.
